RACE DAY FROM FAIRBANKS:
" A quiet rumble of 1,264 paws on the ground in the start of the 2015 IDITAROD race"
Someone up above was listening and gave Fairbanks a snow storm last night. That helped!!
Sad news yesterday: One of Lachlan Clarke's, Iditarod dogs was killed after getting loose from his feeding area. He was Stuart (after Stuart Little) a 3 year old Black Husky. They came all the way from Colorado. At the end of the ceremonial start in Anchorage yesterday the dogs were let out of the kennels, leashed to be watered and fed. Somehow Stuart got away from the leash and raced around Anchorage for a few hours. The entire musher community fanned out to find him. Three hours later they did--by the side of the road, the driver did not stop! Lachlan and his wife Linda are devastated.
With heavy heart he is in Fairbanks without him.
I have to admit I was watching the Apple release live feed so the beginning of the race got away from me. No IWatch Edition for me $10,000!
I got to see #24 Hugh Neff leave. He is a funny guy. Seems so relaxed-kissing his dogs and sporting his Cat-In-The-Hat HAT--mouthful.
Going back to catch a few more mushers:
