FEW FACTS:
ELLEN HALVERSON #35 is still at the back of the pack--last--still in RUBY.
PHILIP WALTERS, a rookie, #51 scratched in RUBY
6 sleds out of the race
7 in GALENA
32 in HUSLIA
rest spread out from KOYUKUK to KALTAG
Most have had their 8 and 24 hour mandatory layovers
Here are the standings:
ALIY ZIRKLE - in KALTAG
JEFF KING
AARON BURMEISTER
DALLAS SEAVEY
JESSIE ROYER
MITCH SEAVEY
JOAR LEIFSETH ULSOM ( he's moving up Nina)
MARTIN BUSER is 25th
MIKE SANTOS is 35 (I'm keeping my eye on him Sue)
HEIDI SUTTER is 44th (she is moving up each and every day)
Most have at least 13 or 14 dogs on their sleds but MARCELLE FRESSINEAU has only 9
JESSIE ROYER has the most 15 dogs.
TEMPS are the problem for the mushers. Now they will see -25 to -36 but a break in ELIM at only -9
Now its SPEED vs. LONG RUNS. DALLAS SEAVEY seems to have the speed. He has always been known to speed up near the end when it counts the most. He won last year, didn't he.
KATHERINE KEITH running down the bank onto the KOYUKUK River leaving HUSLIA
TIM HUNT coming into HUSLIA
Everyone heard--get to NULATO --for the food!! Salmon casserole, goose soup, homemade
pumpkin pie.
The kids in NULATO decorated for the mushers.
