2 DAYS 15 HOURS till race time
There are 78 mushers registered to start. One of the families who are legend to the Iditarod are the
SEAVEY'S. Dad, Dan Seavey, now 77 years old, has raced dogs and is one of the main men to have started the Iditarod. He is a dynamo. Hank and I befriended him many years ago and he was the reason I was able to go to Takotna and have a place to stay. That's another story. One of his son's Mitch, 55 years old, won the Iditarod in 2004 and 2013. He injured a wrist or arm in 2012 so he had to opt out of the race and stayed around Unalakleet. We happened to be there and spent time with him finding a VERY devoted man to the sport in his quiet sort of way.
He and his wife had 4 sons. Three of the sons are mushers. One of his sons, Dallas, 27 years old, won the Iditarod in 2012 and 2014. His 2014 was epic. He came in 2 minutes ahead of Aliy Zirkle for the win. That was last year so I won't spend time with that.
He is also one of the main characters on the National Geographic show "Ultimate Survival". Check it out. Both Mitch and Dallas will be running this year.
The Seavey's seem like the favorite. Is Aliy racing again this year?
