MARCH 18, 2015
WE HAVE A WINNER: DALLAS SEAVEY FIRST DAD SEAVEY SECOND!!!
WINNER: 8 days 13 hours and 6 min. This was 5 hours longer than the record he set in winning last years race. Average speed 4.5 mph
DALLAS made use of two styles. l. Be more aggressive than usual ,early on ,and run near the front.
2. Then he let loose the "monster" as he called it, where you finish strong building speed at the end.
Arriving at 4:30 am EVERYONE was out to greet him. THAT'S NOME! They presented him with a check for $70,000--$19,600 more than when he won last year, and the keys to a new pick up truck.
His THIRD win.
It is said that the race is won and lost at the checkpoints and how the musher takes care of his/her dogs. DALLAS can multitask! He can interview, calmly, while feeding his dogs --being very efficient, for example. Being efficient gives the musher more time to rest--that's important.
DALLAS had 9 dogs at the finish--lead dog REEF.
MITCH SEAVEY came in 4 hours later
AARON BURMEISTER came in 1 hour after that--also with only 9 dogs.
JESSIE ROYER was next 2 hours after AARON
ALIY ZIRKLE next
We can go back to see pictures of DALLAS and others coming into NOME:
