MARCH 13, 2013 (Who's lucky Friday the 13th will it be??)
JEFF KING was the first to the Yukon- GLAENA so he won the Millennium Hotel dinner. A great many course dinner with Paddy Noller . Paddy is the son of the original 1925 serum musher Edgar Noller. Don't know if I have mentioned the reason the Iditarod came to be...there was an epidemic in Nome in 1925 and they were in desperate need of serum. The only way there was by dog sled. Men, as Edgar Noller, took it upon themselves to relay, by sled dog, all the way to Nome with the serum...later the Iditarod race came to be, commemorating this run.
Lots of racing today. The run to HUSLIA (1/2 way point) is the most scenic of the race also handing out nice weather. No wind, sunny and bright!! 1/2 way from GALENA to HUSLIA is a shelter cabin. Its not the Hilton but you can get away from the cold and rest.
Temperatures in a few areas: RUBY -20, GALENA -28 and HUSLIA -26.
AARON BURMEISTER is first into HUSLIA. Remember, he hasn't even taken his 8 hour layover yet. Here is where he will do that. The INSIDER people followed along and did see AARON resting before the cabin in a nice sheltered area, nice fire going, resting and feeding his dogs before getting into HUSLIA.
THOMAS WAERNER was passed by DALLAS SEAVEY in the picture I will show after this writing.
Again, the INSIDER spotted DALLAS camped out 10 miles past GALENA making this run to HUSLIA 74 miles instead of 84.
