NOME 5th day

To dog lot for  2 hr shift. Windy and quite cold. Few dogs in and a few "drops". Busy there. To see movie on Eskimo life--quite good. Then Wattie McDonald came in at 2:01pm. He is from Scotland so all the Scottish flags were out with a lot of hooting  and yelling. He dogs had red warmers on.
Hank went down to the shute to get some pics of Wattie coming in.
Then to the Polar Cafe, great view, for crab legs--yum. Cym Smythe and group were there.
To Iditarod Center for the hoola hoop contest. Hey, Barb, Sue, Eileen and Carol. They made their own hoops and they were bigger so not as difficult to do. All the young kids got in the contest and hooled til the sun went down!!! NO MATCH FOR ME!!!
Lots of mushers around. Jessie Royer, all the Seaveys, Paul Gephart, John Baker, Hugh Neff, the Beringer twins etc.
Another movie on animal life in the north-excellent pictures!!
Up to the craft fair to pick up my dog hair hat (from the undercoat of the dog, no harm done to them). Lady
put some ties on the hat for me-she did a nice job. Checked over all the goods. Beautiful native art.
Now back as Billy Snodgrass came in (no time posted yet), then Gerald Sousa and Justin Savdis--all a few minutes apart. Justin had his lead dog touch the arch.
Gotta go "sum it up" as we leave tomorrow.
Got to see Andrew from Mariskaya shop, we met him and his Mom in Santa Fe a few years ago at the Indian Market. Had dinner with them here in Nome last year. Patty and her husband are staying in Seattle for the winter so they aren't here. THey have a wonderful shop of ivory and other treasurers.
Said goodbye to Mike Calvin, head man at the Visitors Center in Nome. He has been most helpful to me from NY. Brought him some maple syrup, loved it.
NOTE: I thought the man with Jessie Royer was her husband but the age difference did look a bit unbalanced--thats cuz it is her Father, she isn't married.
Gotta go get dinner. A storm is coming. Snow and wind. Hope it holds off till we fly out in the am.
