found a window where we could look directly north with the hopes of seeing Denali as it was so clear out.
See it, we did. Its a long ways away so this was an exceptional view. BEAUTIFUL. So majestic! All 20,000 feet of it. Decided on the Snow City Cafe for breakfast and forgot about the Wall St. Journal!
This is very much a family, comfortable, friendly place for breakfast and or lunch. Caters to children, with crayons, toys available, good kids menu items etc. Just a relaxed atmosphere with lots of organic foods and super smoothies etc. LOTS of food and its good. So is the price. Is a must. Waiters fun and friendly.
On to the Visitors Center run by the State Parks Comm. Have to go thru security to get in!!! Great museum with hands on explanations of life here, history, geology etc. Many specimen taxidermied (my own word)animals from Alaska.
Visited the home we lived in during the 60's. Met the lady who lives there now. Nice visit.
Went to Earthquake park at Turnagain Arm. This is where my godparents lived during the earthquake. Many of the homes here slipped right into the Inlet. Lot of damage in Anchorage and in this area particularily.(Second largest earthquake recorded--9.2) Has a great view of Anchorage with the backdrop of the Chugach Mountains. This is where we will come tonight to try to see the northern lights.
Went to dinner at Phyllis' for king crab. $19.95 all you can eat and its great. Certainly not fancy with local musicians playing. We ate so much we just wanted to lie down and sleep!! NOT ON OUR SCHEDULE!!!
Back to the Earthquake Park to see?? northern lights. See Marian, we are really trying. NO LUCK!
Tomorrow leaving Anchorage for Unalakleet so I may not have any service for my blog. May see you
in a few days.
IDITAROD NEWS: Went to the Headquarters for a report for Cathleen and Lois. NOTE: Cathleen, I didn't go to the forum to get everyone on this blog if they wanted to. Could you do that for me? A million thanks. Hugh Neff leading- he is out of Grayling. He has never won the Iditarod and neither has John Baker and he is second. Here comes Lance at third but with only 9 dogs. They changed it this year have to go over the finish line with 6 dogs, last year it was 5. Martin is 11th- darn, he was first.
Many here want Lance to win. This would be 5 consecutive wins and a record extremely difficult to beat.
Vets are being kept very busy at the Headquarters with dropped dogs. The first 12 mushers are out of Grayling.
Hard to tell who will win. The lead changes daily. Quite a different race. So warm here. Good for some but certainly not for all.
Can't wait to get into the thick of it in Unalakleet.
