MARCH 19, 2022
Last night the TRAIL MARSHALL, MARK NORDMAN, who has the authority, would not let the musher at WHITE MOUNTAIN go on due to the deteriorating weather conditions, 76 miles from NOME. There were others at the SAFETY CABIN shelter 49 miles from NOME. They were also told to hunker down and could not leave until the TM gave his ok. Again, may have mentioned, SEAN WILLIAMS was between WHITE MOUNTAIN and the SAFETY CABIN and had to ask for help to get back to WHITE MOUNTAIN. That disqualified him so he is out. SEBASTIEN DSB (too long to write every time) was concerned about his hands but got to the CABIN and took care of that. If you use anything in the CABIN you are expected to replace it--ex wood for the fire, couldn't go out till morning to cut anything more down, wind fierce. By 2:22 pm (EST) they were given the ok to leave both places.
I remember Hank and I flying in a small mail plane and stopping to drop mail at WHITE MOUNTAIN. I think it's ALWAYS windy there!!!!! We had to walk up a big hill from where we landed and into the shelter. Beautiful trip there but I could see how that weather could get brutal---and it did this year!!!
RILEY DYCHE was the first to leave and arrive in NOME. He said the winds were at 60-70 mph with ground blizzard conditions last night. No wonder they didn't let them leave. If we have 20 mph winds I think my house will cave in so 60-70 wow, can't imagine. It is only 6:00 (EST) so I will write again this eve.

This photo above is RILEY DYCHE coming into NOME. Lot of people there as they knew he had a rough ride. JEFF KING was there, only one I could spot. Lots of cheering. He came from the SAFETY CABIN with the bad conditions behind him this am. I heard ALIY ZIRKLE and ALLEN MOORE were there as they came to be with their daughter BRIDGETT WATKINS, hurt in those winds and conditions I just spoke of. She is back in NOME. I looked for them at the finish line but no camera on them if they were there.
