MARCH, 14, 2022 FROM KALTAG TO WHITE MOUNTAIN
There are still 13 teams in KALTAG. Some just resting for their trip to UNALAKLEET--usually a tough trail. Only 4 left in UNALAKLEET the rest ahead. PETE KAISER said his trip across NORTON SOUND was good. He had a fast pace. His next checkpoint trip to SHAKTOOLIK was a tough one, he said. The weather was a factor, very windy. DALLAS SEAVEY's dogs did have some health issue early on with diarrhea etc. The vets kept a close eye on them, as well as DALLAS. After a short time they picked up the pace and starting eating more enthusiastically and he knew they were feeling better. He feeds them uncured pork bellies as it has the most calories. After not wanting to eat during the health issue they are now catching up and eating well.
JOSH MCNEAL scratched in GALENA with 10 dogs, citing for the good of the team.
CHAD STODDARD is in KOYUK. He has one of DALLAS' teams and DALLAS is his mentor. He loves working with him as DALLAS does have so much knowledge about the race. He came in to KOYUK 3rd, just behind DALLAS. He has just come from SHAKTOOLIK, earlier this am, and when he crossed the sound it was dark. He found that part of the experience quite exhilarating. The wind was whipping by him and the sunrise on the sea ice was something he said he would NEVER forget~~Magnificent! Everyone has taken their 24 hour and 8 hour mandatory rest but LISBET NORRIS. They also have to take an 8 hour rest in WHITE MOUNTAIN as by this time all of the mushers and dogs are exhausted!!AARON BURMEISTER was in KOYUK and rested there. He knew he would now not be the winner so he said he could just take it a little easier and enjoy it. If he wasn't first then it didn't matter to him. He said the community in KOYUK was so friendly and many of them came to visit with him. MARTIN BUSER, my favorite, is in UNALAKLEET and is 26th.
BRENT SASS was first into WHITE MOUNTAIN getting him another award. It is the Northrim Bank Achieve More Award. Award of $2,500 check, a trophy and a donation of $1,500 to the community of WHITE MOUNTAIN in honor of BRENT SASS. When he came in the church bells were ringing, welcoming the first team into WHITE MOUNTAIN.He sure is racking up the bucks!!!Till tomorrow!!
