MARCH 11, 2020
So sorry about the ? pictures. Not sure what happened. I will work on that!! If only I was younger and grew up with this computer stuff!!!
They went from RAINY PASS ,where I pictured previously, on to ROHN across "THE BURN"
a place that usually don't have much snow as it blows off here BUT this year there was snow on it and no one seems to be having any issues with it. Then on to NIKOLAI for again "a nice ride" with a full moon. Maybe northern lights tonight?? On to MCGRATH where I showed you the "snow" pictures. JESSIE ROYER was the first to MCGRATH winning the Alaska Air Transit Spirit of Iditarod Award. I'll try to get a picture of it. Hand made, showing tradition and really beautiful.
Sadly JIM LANIER scratched in RAINY PASS due to concern for his well being. He is a 79 year old MD--retired Pathologist and full time dog musher. He was born in Washington DC and raised in
Fargo, ND (Hey, Tara). He was always one of my favorites so I sorry to see he had to scratch.
Right now 2 women (yeah) are 1st and 2nd. PAIGE DROBNY and MICHELLE PHILLIPS.
in 3rd MITCH SEAVEY (not my favorite), BRENT SASS and LANCE MACKEY (another favorite)
He has survived cancer where he teeth had to be removed, he was on chemo and radiation and during one race he had a feeding tube in!!! There was NO WHINING from any of the mushers that year!!
Now its MCGRATH to TAKOTNA 18 miles. TAKOTNA is where I cooked and served the mushers. We stayed in a dormatory with about 20 kids from Norway. They were climbing mountains in Alaska!!?? I befriended MISTY there as her husband owns a small plane co and he flew us from MCGRATH to TAKOTNA. I helped Misty in the kitchen and we have been friends ever since. I asked her to take some pictures inside this year. Will show you if she comes through.
Most of the mushers take their 24 hour mandatory layover here. They have the best food and are famous for their pies and hospitality. If a musher comes in a midnight and wants a steak THEY GET A STEAK!!!!
First pic is misplaced--RAINY PASS at night. It was one of the ?.
The Iditarod Photographer has to endure any kind of weather
These are the Barrington twins---mushers--- alike or what!! They travel together.
