ONE DAY and 20 HOURS LEFT UNTIL THE START OF THE RACE

One last entry about the people involved in the Iditarod before we actually get on the trail!!

TEACHER ON THE TRAIL:

Each year a teacher is chosen, applicants from all over the US, to hold this title.
This year the teacher is ERIN MONTGOMERY a 7th and 8th grade Social Studies Teacher, for 8 years, from Camanche, Iowa. She also coaches many sports, is a runner herself and LOVES to travel. She will report from the Iditarod trail as she travels along the race in a small plane. She will use this portal as a classroom experience for students from all over the country.
We will be hearing more about Erin and her program as we go into the race.

GET READY---ITS CLOSE!! Pray for some snow for the ceremonial start in Anchorage.

2 DAYS 15 HOURS till race time

There are 78 mushers registered to start. One of the families who are legend to the Iditarod are the
SEAVEY'S. Dad, Dan Seavey, now 77 years old, has raced dogs and is one of the main men to have started the Iditarod. He is a dynamo. Hank and I befriended him many years ago and he was the reason I was able to go to Takotna and have a place to stay. That's another story. One of his son's Mitch, 55 years old, won the Iditarod in 2004 and 2013. He injured a wrist or arm in 2012 so he had to opt out of the race and stayed around Unalakleet. We happened to be there and spent time with him finding a VERY devoted man to the sport in his quiet sort of way.
He and his wife had 4 sons. Three of the sons are mushers. One of his sons, Dallas, 27 years old, won the Iditarod in 2012 and 2014. His 2014 was epic. He came in 2 minutes ahead of Aliy Zirkle for the win. That was last year so I won't spend time with that.
He is also one of the main characters on the National Geographic show "Ultimate Survival". Check it out. Both Mitch and Dallas will be running this year.

Everyone needs a vacation before a marathon!!!
March 2, 2015

I think my blog is lacking a little humor so here goes:

Last week I was at the Philadelphia Airport and, as it always seems to go there,my flight to
New York was delayed and I had a 4 hour layover. I saw one of those "quickie massages"  where you sit in the chair for the massage so I decided I'd treat myself and went into the X'press Spa!!
I was warmly greeted my Masseuse--not like any masseuse I'd seen before. He was HUGE with hands the size of frisbees. I went for it anyway!! His gentle was bone shattering--I had to put the brakes on him instantly. From then on, he was as gentle and sensitive as he could be. I really had a great massage. I asked him how long he had been a Masseuse and he laughed and said "oh, only about 2 weeks,"  then so innocently said" I'm really a TRUCK DRIVER!!" Now it all made sense.
Maybe not the best thing to tell a client but he was so sweet about it and it made sense to him. I smiled for the next 3 1/2 hours till I flew off into the night.
