MARCH 7, 2021 CONT'D FROM START OF IDITAROD 2021
All 48 teams have left DESHKA LANDING. It took about 1 1/2 hours to see them all off. It was -7 when I tuned in early this am and warmed up. For some reason, can't get the exact temp. maybe they don't want us to know. They seem to have plenty of snow and everyone looked excited to get started. They did express some regret to not go under the burled arch in Nome, certainly a tradition for the end of the race.
There will be a lot more wilderness this year and no charging stations in any buildings as they are being "housed" in tents. Wonder how that will work out. They usually charge up their music source for their "entertainment" on the trail. The dogs prefer temperatures above 10 degrees and below -20.
BRENT SASS suffered a shoulder injury this year and did say he is healed. For dog mushing one of the most essential body parts used is the shoulder--to hold on to the sled and maneuver. I wish him luck and no trouble with that shoulder.
DALLAS SEAVEY is back in the race after a year off. He has many of his Dad, Mitch's dogs and looks ready for a 5th win to tie the champ RICK SWENSON.
ANNA BERINGTON--of the BERINGTON TWINS has number 13. In mushing that is considered a very lucky number. We'll see.
MARTIN BUSER--my favorite looked ready to go and may have a win in him with a shorter distance this year.
LARRY DAUGHERTY is a Doctor of Oncology AND A DOG MUSHER!!!
JOAR LEIFSETH ULSOM from Norway is also one of my favorites and quite good looking too!! He won the Iditarod in 2018.
I will show you some photo, I took from the computer as I don't see any posted yet from Alaska.
