Not a lot of news on the attacks this morning. ALIY ZIRKLE apparently tried to fend off the attacker with one of the Iditarod stick markers. He came at her four different times. She got away but JEFF KING was not so lucky losing one of his dogs and getting injured along with two of his dogs.
They do have a 26 year old man from NULATO in custody. His snow machine was seen in town and his Father came in to the police, so I hear. The 26 year old then admitted to these attacks. No motive yet.
As these hearty mushers are, physically and mentally, ALIY and JEFF have left NULATO and are on the trail. Don't know if they plan on doing the long trek to UNALAKLEET tonight.
BRENT SASS is still in the lead.
The next checkpoint is KALTAG which is 47 miles and then KALTAG to UNALAKLEET 85 miles--longest stretch on the trail.
Hate to be bearer of bad news but I'm just the reporter.
KEN ANDERSON got a two hour time penalty for having 2 sets of dogs that were tripled at the beginning of the race. Ken has run 15 Iditarod's, placed in the top 10 most of the time and still had no idea this rule existed.
The kids in NULATO hung these pictures up for the mushers
NULATO was so thrilled seeing the sleds come in and to have those attacks come from someone in their village will be difficult for them to comprehend
These dogs are beautiful!!
