WED. MARCH 5,2014

I won't be as windy today. Its a year since Hank died and I was just thinking about how Henry hooked up the I Pad for Hank to watch the ceremonial start of last years Iditarod. He enjoyed that. Good memories of our trips to Alaska and to the Iditarod.
Well, Martin is only one of 3 who has taken his 24 hour and he is now up and running.
Lots of mushers behind him have had their problems with the condition of the trails.
Scott Janssen, 52 years old from Anchorage and musher crashed his sled, hit a tree stump which knocked him unconscious for about an hour, then later fell thru the ice and broke his ankle. Who came to his rescue---yes, one of our favorite mushers--Newton Marshall, the Jamaican, who pulled him out and would not leave till help came and helicoptered him out.
Wanted to mention Abbie West from Two Rivers and a rookie. She has done the Yukon Quest 3 times and this is her first time in the Iditarod. I met her in Fairbanks when Hank was out for 5 days on the trail with his dog team and a guide. She had done a poster of a Two Rivers 200 Dog Sled Race in 2009. It also had the name Pleasant Valley on it as the town in Alaska of PV is very near Two Rivers so I had to have it. She signed it for Hank--a fellow musher etc. and he met her before we left Fairbanks. So its  exciting to follow her this year. Haven't heard that she is having any problems so GO ABBIE GO!!!
Martin is moving up while the front runners are going to have to take a 24 hours pretty soon.
I'm on it. GO MARTIN!! First picture is of Ally Zirkle at Rainy Pass. Just thought it showed some of the terrain that actually has snow.
Second picture is one of my favorite people and mushers Newton Marshall. He is here comforting Yvonne Dabakk after her "ride" down the Dalzell gorge and has finally (I'm sure she thought) arrived in Rohn.
