Jeff is in the lead. He has left White Mountain. Aliy is into White Mountain. Some fast race due to all the ice. I hope if Jeff does get in he doesn't break Martin's record of 8days and whatever hours.
From the pictures it looks much colder with snow here and there---mostly ice.

Top photo: Martin Buser getting dogs rearranged after sliding on the glare ice out of Koyok
Second photo: Here is SHAKTOOLIK--I remember flying into Shaktoolik from Unalakleet to Nome.
We were delivering mail and picking up a traveller. It sure looked a bit barren from the
air and it didn't change when we got closer.
Third photo: One of the "dropped dogs" who will be flown to Anchorage--the Millennium Hotel--
where there are vets and where they keep him until the musher finishes the race and
picks him up. He looks sad, to me, that he couldn't finish the race.!!
Last photo: Jeff King with one of his lead dogs. His two lead dogs are mother and son pair. This pic
suggests what I think, that Jeff doesn't seem to be a people person but perhaps just a dog
. person.

Report for the end of the day:
Sadly, for me anyway, Jeff King is now in the lead. He has won in the past and I just don't find him the friendliest person. He has said, many times, this is his last Iditarod and yet he comes back.
Aliy is second, by a hair, and Martin is third. Dallas Seavey is behind Martin and Dallas is KNOWN for his "sprint" to the end. He can put the pedal to the metal and hot foot it to Nome. He has won that way before. SOOO we'll see in the morning. I'm going to my nice warm bed and will thinking of them, possibly sleeping along the way on hay and stirring up some "grub" for themselves and the dogs.
You'd have to love it (mushing that is)!!
Abbie West is still in the pack and moving right along. She is in Unalakleet right now.
